Ian,
You're overcomplicating the process. When I needed a 75pf APC for one of my
coils, all I could dig up were some 100's. I simply took a small ruler..
measured the length of the cap's plates (total length)... counted the plates
for insurance...
then simply cut the sucker to 3/4 length. It came out to about 80pf, but
that was close enough for my purposes.
Stuck it in an it worked great. Hammers n' Hacksaws, buddy.... they're a
part of electronics, too.

PS - Counting the plates gave me another way to determine what I was looking
for... if ya' got 15 plates, and ya' want 75% of that... just hack off 4
plates, and you'll be pretty close.
