[HBR] HBR 16 Owner Pondering Building My Own

The HBR-11 I have, was built by a guy when he was 16 (I've met him - quite a
story, how). He maintains that his building ability and mechanical ability
were fairly sad, but that's what folks did in 1964, when they didn't have
much money. (His solder-joints were horrible... I'm still fixing them, as I
find 'em)

I built a receiver out of the '59 Handbook, when I was 16...and while my
ability was ...ummm, okay... I didn't have the metal working tools that
would have made it much nicer, in my Dad's workshop. Still - it came out
okay, and after getting the local TV repair guy to align it for me (signal
generator? Oh yeah, that's what the RICH guys have, isn't it?), it worked
pretty darned well. I'd kill to find that darned thing, but Mom (The Queen
of the garage-sale), sold it when I went into the Navy in 1961.

My only advice... use ALUMINUM chassis, front panels, and cabinets... STEEL
may be cheaper, but it sure ain't easier.
