Listers,

Thanks for the kind comments on the HBR-??. I have a few more comments =
along with the pix at www.lizcurtishiggs.com/images/special/hbrpix.htm.

Specific answers to questions: There is probably room in the "pan" for a =
grain of wheat type pilot light; I haven't decided whether or not to do =
this yet. The space is about 3/8" once you take off for the thickness of =
the pan. My concern was for heat buildup. Not shown in the pictures is a =
plastic window with a hairline cursor salvaged from unknown surplus =
equipment (the date stamp was 1945). This early stuff is not very =
resistant to heat, as many users of surplus equipment will tell you. If =
I do put bulbs in it, I'll probably put a series resistor in to lower =
the heat.

The connection to the spline was made through a standard solid 1/4 inch =
shaft coupler with a shim insert made by wrapping a piece of tin plate =
around a 3/16 drill bit. Not a perfect fit, but close enough that the =
offset of the knob is not noticeable. as the shaft length is only an =
inch or so, no wobble is apparent.=20

The tin was cut from a shield plate salvaged from a defunct VCR circuit =
board. By the way, I plan to use pieces of the same stuff to shield =
across tube sockets, as it is quite solderable and easy to work with and =
can be cut with snips or heavy scissors. If you do this, round off the =
edges, as they can be razor sharp; learn from my unhappy experience!

73 and happy HBRing!=20
