I know what you mean about the time available, Walt.
Since that AC-100 result, although working, didn't perform quite as well
as I had wanted (and my ears were better back then), I'm going to try a
more "serious" regen pass, then go back to something else. Here are some
exchanges, any other input is welcome.

Would suggest two stages audio, and an audio filter as in the 2JJ rx.
1.4V octal tubes not hard to find down here, if supply is a problem.
Experience down here is that output tetrodes like 1Q5 do well as low B
voltage regen dets.
