Well, I've always had good (overtone) luck with the classic circuit in the CW
Crystals flyer, whether I used a 6U8 triode or half a 12AX7 (as in the
HW-101). Same circuit will work with fundamentals as well.
Nowadays (Type 7) I use all fundamentals, using a 6AU6A or 6CB6 in the
grid-plate circuit, Shamelessly copied from the "Sideband Package" article. This
circuit can multiply in the plate circuit, too. Oodles of output and easy on the
rock if the screen voltage is low (I use 75-150 volts).
