Very cool project, not to say challenging, with the availability of parts
being as it is.   I'd certainly like to hear how it goes and see some
pictures.  What are you using for a chassis?  

As for the filaments, I'd think some of the AM boys would have a 
good size 5 VAC CT transformer squirrelled away somewhere -- 
some of the serious 'heavy iron' tubes have 5V filaments.   17 amps 
... wow ...  But that's a 5V 10A CT transformer -- I think that's not all 
that rare an item.   

Commercial receivers of that vintage most often used separate power 
supplies, did they not?  

My (much easier!) 10 tube project is going well -- the audio stages 
are working.   Detector next, possibly today.   That and the AGC are 
the last of the messy (many components per stage) work.   Both are 
plate detectors.

There will be an Electric Radio article on either this or the HBR2K 
project -- maybe both.   I enjoyed writing for ER, but life got so busy 
for a while there that there was no way to add writing and still have 
time for any radio activity to write about!
