Actually those are "ventilation" hole plugs rather than tube sockets.  They
are the same as the (usually) bright nickel plated hole plugs that snap into
an unwanted hole in a chassis.  Easier to punch a single large hole than
drill a bunch of small holes.   I have also seen them with a screen mesh
center, all nickel plated.
