Garey said it was OK to pass to the reflector. Just goes to show
that they are out there ...and sometimes real deals can be made.
Garey will also be joining the reflector.

Kees -
Well I finally fell into one today....
I purchased an HBR-16 at a local hamfest today. It appears the
original builder, (unknown,) took the QST article to the parts store.
All the major components, transformers, tuning cap, are the specified
manufacturers and part numbers. Of course, the dial is an Eddystone
898 ..... It has the 1700 kc coils wound on polystyrene tubing
mounted on ceramic standoffs and link coupled. The 3500 (HC-6) and
1700 (FT-243) kc crystals are even both present. Oh, coils for 5
bands on polystyrene coil forms with air variables in the tops. The
knobs (Collins style, all but one without the skirt) even match!
The bad news is that the chassis metal work isn't so hot, and there is
some rust around the base of the power transformer. But the power
transformer is a Triad anyway! :-) The clear plastic dial cover is
cracked almost all the way across, but that shouldn't be too big a
problem.
I drooled over these articles back in the late 50's and have spent
quite a bit of time perusing your HRB website over the last year or
so. Probably be spending a bit more time there now. I passed by the
receiver Bob, WB4MNF bought at Shelby last year. Even looked inside
it....
Anyway, I asked the guy "how much".... Do you have any idea how fast
I can pull out a $5 bill???
