Thanks for the reply Walt; (I was a big fan of your Electric Radio articles
some years back...)
That's exactly the info I was looking for regarding effect on the mixers if
I applied AGC there..
I'll try it anyway to see what happens, maybe the mixer with the xtal osc...

Can't be sure of the details without looking at the diagram (too lazy
right now ...) but in general putting AGC on a mixer causes the
load reflected to the local oscillator to vary with signal strength and
since the HBR-series does not use a L.O. buffer (right?) you'd wind
up with a receiver that changed tuning appreciably with SS.
