Relative to finding parts....BG Micro had 3 section FM tuning capacitors
which measure 5-25pf per section and are a "good" substitute for the
specified variable. Also BC 453 IF transformers are 85Khz, can be
moved up to 100Khz if you want (or 50Khz), have an adjustable coupling
via that micarda rod out the top ("in" is overcoupled), they are readily
available, and in my opion (and using the spectrum analyzer) are better
than the JW Miller IF transformers (higher "Q", ceramic or mica base, air
trimmer tuning, excellent shielding, top adjustment, variable coupling,
etc).
Also having access to a good Q meter is essential for selecting coil
form material, coil wire, coil doping, etc ....if you really want to peak
"Q".
