[HBQRP] Maybe a little "found" discretionary money for new ham gear?

I have seen a couple of news stories recently about how to claim
money you may have left in forgotten bank accounts and so forth.

This may be a strange posting for this group, but several people I
have mentioned this to have been surprised to find some state government
is holding some of their money as unclaimed property. If this is you,
you can probably get the money back FREE, by just verifying you are who
you claim you are. It is EASY, FAST, and FREE to check. The government probably
has wonderful uses for the money, but maybe you do too :-)

I just happened to stumble upon the Washington Post article one
morning, and clicked the http://missingmoney.com/ link they mention.
Of curiosity, typed in my name, and found that somehow when we moved to
Nebraska from South Dakota, we lost/overlooked a savings account balance
of $82 (in the early 1990s). The SD State Treasurer required some
validation information which I copied and included in a PDF and emailed
to them. Within two hours, they sent me email that the claim was
approved, and 10 days later, the SD State Treasurer sent me a check for
$82. Not a lot, but better than being poked with the proverbial sharp stick.

I checked to see if family members might have forgotten money (you just
need to type their name at the missing money site), found money for a
daughter, and brother-in-law (his name popped up when I was checking my
wife's maiden name). A friend, a retiree, searching for her maiden name
found over $450 from an insurance policy her folks bought for her when
 she was a baby.

One of the above articles has other links that might be especially
interesting to ex-military people.

Anyway, in case it is of any use to you, or someone you know,
it might be worth a shot.
