I think Diz's new kit looks like a good one to build as a group.  Let's do that one!  Reasonably priced and a variety of stuff in it like toroidal and surface mount to give a good building experience. 73 DE K0NEB

For those not on the qrp-tech yahoo group, I am forwarding a message from
Chuck Adams - K7QO.  If you are interested in building a project this
fall/winter, Chuck lists several potential projects and I am wondering if
the HBQRP group might like to tag along and have some building fun.

At the North Bend hamfest, there was some discussion about building a 602
based receiver, then build a matching transmitter.  I think we have a
couple of good receiver designs found and I should have the information for
the meeting next saturday.  The part counts are low and it should be easy
to rustle up what we may need.

I have not heard any rumblings about any raspberry pi project thoughts,
so that is on hold for now.  More later, maybe.

Ray - N5SEZ

Just spent the last few days doing a QRPp beta build for 20m.
Diz, W8DIZ, has done it again.  A nice xcvr design.  Superhet
receiver, VXO tuned and builtin keyer for $44 plus S&H.

Please don't get me in trouble by bothering him right now.
He will have the kit ready sometime late next month or in
Sept.  No rush.  You have to get all the stalled projects done
and the workbench cleared of clutter.

Here is my build, using my own order of installation and testing.
This is with the prototype board.  I bought a beta xcvr from Diz
(and I thank it from the bottom of my heart).  I don't get things
for free guys.  And I don't expect it either

Yesterday.  Two TX stations and one OH at 0.95W calibrated
with old old trusty OHR wattmeter.  Also hit 11 stations on the
RBN (reverse beacon network for those who don't operate).
interesting to watch the QSB on the RBN.

I killed over an hour on antenna problems.  Short at first and
then had to replace a mica with a high voltage mono due to
failure.  Got the SWR down to under 1.02:1.  For those new
to QRP and especially QRPp, the antenna means everything.
I don't care what rig you are running and whether it is commercial
or HB.  A dummy load on the output won't get you too many contacts. :-)

So, for those looking for a new project kit, this might be your cup of tea.
But you have to wait and watch from the sidelines until it becomes
available.  The receiver is awesome and when Diz says it is quiet, it is
quiet.

OK, to the task at hand.

Blue Moon Muppet Madness Sale

It is getting close to the fall/winter building season.  Some of you
don't want the hassle of learning a CAD/PCB program and laying
out a board or want a board laid out for you.  I'm here to help.
This is a one time deal and I can blame it on the blue moon.

I disposed of all previous muppet boards and experiments.  No
room left in the Hacienda.  Gotta get rid of the old stock and
make room for the new.  I'll let you vote (OFFLINE) as to which
of the following projects you want to see.  This will be a tutorial,
of course.  As such, I invoke the Fair Use Act for all related
material for the purpose of educational material for a classroom
(the Web).

Send me email offline.  Here is the deal.  Top vote gets the
top of the heap.  I will have the project laid out and ready for
your build by Sept 1.  I will have built and tested a prototype.
Others can rush in and also do a board layout if you are so
inclined.

<https://aa7ee.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/the-na5n-desert-ratt-2-regen/>

BMMM-002:  W7ZOI HP8640jr (see files section for the Manhattan build)

BMMM-003:  W7ZOI et al Ugly Weekender xcvr

BMMM-004:  W7EL xcvr

These are at the top of my list, so I'll let you get a chance to let me
do your work for you.
By The Way.  If you vote, I expect you to participate and build one.
You can take the
PDF and get Far Circuits to make up a board.  Some one might get Fred to
do a number
of them at one time for a reduced price and then turn around and pass
that savings
on to the group.  I prefer that you do your own board as  you learn a
lot more.  IMHO.

Doug Hendricks, KI6DS, did the Colpitts oscillator board.  He did a
great job.  And he
didn't even know that it was somewhat advanced.  It required 0.015" (15
thou) spacing
between the traces and the ground plane.  If you can successfully make a
board at
that tolerance, you can just about do anything.

So, the voting polls are open.  Vote early and vote often (not).  I will
make a list of
the class roster for exposure to the group.  Let's see who passes and
who doesn't
show up.  :-)  ;0)  Put the pressure on you.  Mentoring at your door step.

I told you this would be long.

I just spent the last month building a number of Chinese rigs and the
RockMite 2, DC20B, and now the One Watter and will do a writeup for
your entertainment next week or after.

Let's make the 2015-2016 building season a success and more people jump
in.  This is not a spectator sport.

FYI

PS.  I do not want to see this writing again in full.  It will be
deleted.  It's
not worth repeating.
