[HBQRP] 2 Questions - Rig and Tuner

Sean...

Nope I do not own an X1M Pro. I have one of the Wouxum / Baofeng HTs. The
programing cable I bought has the same "unauthorized" chip in the cable. I
got the cable to work on my old XP laptop, but I have never found the
"magic" combination to make it work with Windows 7. I too was afraid of
some of the "Chinese" drivers.

I had never heard of a W3EDP antenna, but it looks like a variation on an
end fed dipole or end fed Zepp antenna... Unbalanced dipoles sometimes have
some very complex impedances...

The SLT manual on Doug's web site has the following suggestions for 80M...
124' active element, 69' counterpoise. But doesn't mention EDZ's.

The BLT will work on 80M with the addition of a switch, and I think some
additional capacitance. There is probably a mod on the web someplace. I
believe Steve, KD1JV, made some mods to the BLT in the PFR-3 specifically to
work with a 44 foot EDZ on 20/30/40 using about 50 feet of 450 Ohm window
line.
(L1= 11t CT at 5/1/2, L2=6t. L3=2t, L2 and L3 centered around the CT) Steve
is out hiking now, but should be back in a couple of weeks. An e-mail
describing your specific antenna installation might yield a suggestion...

Subject: [HBQRP] 2 Questions - Rig and Tuner

Hello group, I have two questions.

First, does anyone own an X1M Pro? I believe this radio is imported from
China. My concern is not with the radio but with the driver for the data
cable. The chip in the cable is a clone, and a "specialized" driver has to
be uses with it. I am afraid the driver software may do something nefarious
to my PC.

My second question is regarding a tuner for a W3EDP antenna. Doug
Hendrick's SLT+ is a long wire tuner for 80m to 10m but I was wondering if
anyone knows about using the SLT+ with a W3EDP. If it won't work, does
anybody know about modifying Hendricks BLT+ to work include 80 meters?

Thanks,
