With permission from Chuck Adams K7QO, forwarding this information about
a transceiver build.
I have signed up for building at least 2 bands and think it would be fun
if more folks may accept the challenge for this project.
Anyhow, see some of you in Branson at Ozarkcon or the following weekend in
Ashland.

Gang,
I got two emails from Pete Eaton, WB9FLW, saying that he was bored and
needed a challenge and that he was interested in the classic W7EL rig. Be
careful what you wish for....
In the August 1980 issue of QST, Roy Lewallen (W7EL) and a member of the
first class of QRP Hall of Fame inductees, wrote an article on the now
famous optimized QRP transceiver for 7MHz. This year marks the
33rd anniversary of that rig, thus the prolific use of the 33 combo. :-)
So here is the project description.
Build a version of the W7EL transceiver.
Dead bug, Manhattan or PCB or combo thereof. No kit.
No more than 3.3W out at 13.8V DC for power.
The object, to get the rig up and running by last day in August 2013.
Document the build as well as you possibly can. No previous build of this
rig allowed. Must be from scratch from this day forward.
This is a voluntary project. The first week of September I will call for a
vote for the best results of those that wish to participate. All who build
the project will get a certificate of completion as an advanced
builder of QRP equipment. The winner of the voting will get a special
certificate of merit for display and bragging rights.
We will then have a contest to see how many of these rigs can be worked
among themselves and among the qrp-tech community and other radio amateurs.
This part independent of the build and starting in September and
running until the end of the year.
This is a prelim definition of the project. Not intended to be
complicated. Just build the W7EL rig and operate it.
Here are some links for the documentation and some examples online for the
same transceiver, so that you have access to the material you need to learn
about the rig and the schematic. Hopefully your junk box has enough
of the parts to begin.
I will be building one for myself. It is a project that was on the bucket
list.
I am shooting for less than 3"x3"x3" enclosure. Just a personal goal.
Phyllis broke a hip in November and I lost this winter season for building,
so anxious to get to doing something before the summer gets here. She has
recovered now and the soldering iron is ready to go.
Enjoy the journey,
chuck, k7qo
P.S. April is the 20th anniversary of qrp-l. Hard to believe it was that
long ago.

ARRL HB version.
Here is a link to 73 magazine, June 1989, that has a modified version of
the rig.
Thanks to Pete for pointing to the magazine and I did a google to find it
online.
