[HBQRP] HBQRP meeting ideas and group project ideas for 2014

Dar,

  Great questions.

This basically is a type of spectrum analyzer (no flames, I know it is
not a real spectrum analyzer), the DDS will sweep thru 30 MHz. Simply, a
signal is generated, passed to the input of the device under test (DUT),
then the results from the output of the DUT
are measured and can be displayed.

So, what can this be used for (within the frequency range)? This can
show if the low pass filter you are building will reduce the harmonics as
intended. This can be used to show how good a small signal amplifier
really works. With a directional coupler, you can sweep your antenna and
show graphically how it resonates.

These are just a couple of uses I can think of right now. So if we are
building radio kits, for 50 to 75 dollars and a laptop computer, we can
have a very useful test equipment. With the DDS and Arduino/RaspberryPi,
already discussed, this project would fit right in. I think this could be
used rather frequently for an avid builder.

73 and Happy Holidays,
