Hi Sean,
I guess its just a case of right place/wrong time.. some people get there early and leave early, before others show up and get started.
Anyhow, cool on the a23's... my bikes have a transmitter that uses that battery. They seem to last a while but I usually go thru one each year or so. They transmit the wheel rotations and on some units they have a second one that will transmit the current cadence the engine (operator) of the bike is running at...
Well, I don't think that I would want to try to make both places in one day either. I would not mind having just a social gathering and lunch or something in Sgt bluff or Sioux city after the flea mkt runs down. Looking at the PR sheet, it looks like it is over by 2 pm, and for most aspects of it, it will be over around noon.
/RANT on/Hardly looks like they want to have anyone from out side the local area show up at this with those hours! Its no wonder the attendance to these things is dropping all the time.Who wants to have to get on the road at first light, drive 2-3 hours and then only have 2-3 hours that the thing is open... not many I suspect. I guess if you want to appeal to the "Older set" who don't work any more, they can drive there on Friday, buy a hotel room, and then get there in the morning for the start of it. Most of the "new" hams are still working and would not want to have to take a day off to get there the night before, spend money on a room, and then go to the convention for only a few hours.
Doesn't look like they have any info yet on the forums posted on the web page... might not have much for speakers yet either...
/RANT off/
Maybe we could have a lunch or something for those who would be interested at some place close to the convention.. dunno yet what is in the area, but I might check on it in the next few weeks when I am up in the area again. A subway or DQ or other place that might have room for 5-10 people might do it don't you think? Maybe at like 1 PM or something so it would not upset people's eating sched much but also will not take up any real time at the convention.. as I expect that they will be starting to pack up about 1 anyway..
Any one else please feel free to voice an opinion on this too... I suspect that a lot of us will be up there and not at the meeting next month..

I haven't heard anything myself. I was a bit late to the September
meeting, and the guys told me I missed someone who'd just left after
waiting for some time. I ordered a pizza and in the time it took them to
cook it Joe showed up to keep me company. We had a chat and some food,
and that was pretty much it. I think it was just one of those days where
everyone had something pressing at the same time.
Given the big drive to Sgt. Bluff and back I don't think it'd work out
well to hold the meeting the same day if lots of folks are headed up
there, but it's all the same to me. I'm very lucky in that my boss is
understanding, so I think I could free up just about any day of the month.
Glad to hear you had fun, can't wait to hear about it. If all goes well
I'll be bringing in some extra A23 battery holders I found cheap in case
anyone wants one for a project. They're for tiny, low capacity 12V cells
that are about the size of a half AA.
