Sounds like I hear a volunteer to present "roll your own" at one of our
get together.
Which, come to think of it, we should do more of?
Anyone got a favorite subject that they would like to just to impart
some special knowledge on to the rest of us, simply contact me. We might
even be able to set up Video Conference so you far away folks could pass
something cool to all of us.
I'm sure that both Bill N2CQR of Smoke solder
<http://soldersmoke.blogspot.com/> and VE7VPO's of QRP/SWL Homebuilder
<http://www.qrp.pops.net/> would be proud of us.
Tomorrow..!!

As an alternative, you can roll your own switching regulator circuit for
a few dollars. There are a bunch of different switcher ICs out there
and some can do both step down and step up voltage.
There is a little more "engineering" involved, but you won't need the
big heat sink required for a linear regulator.

And only a measly little $21 and change each! :)
