Greetings group, I hope this message will cause a flood of email because
I could use all the wisdom and advice represented here. In February I
got my Technician license and in March I upgraded to General. Right
now, cost is the biggest obstacle between me and a rig, and after
looking into QRP, I finally found many transceiver options in my price
range (<$50). Although I am new to radio, I am not new to electronics
or soldering.
I have found a couple versions of the Pixie II, but many modifications
are recommended. The Lil' Squall ][ is a modified Pixie, with modules
for multiple bands, but the circuit looks a little fragile on top of the
tuna can. Ham Can and Rockmite also look good, but I don't know where
to start.
What are your recommendations for a good first QRP transceiver kit and why?
