For all the QRP CW fans out there, this should be a very fun evening if you
choose to be a ZOMBIE for a evening. Hope to see some of you there.

==========

Fellow Zombies,

This year's Zombie Shuffle will be held on SUNDAY, OCT. 30, 2011
from local sundown (6pm) to midnight. The Shuffle has been moved to Sunday
evening to avoid all the contest QRM on Friday-Saturday.

This will be the 13th annual Zombie Shuffle!!!

The official rules, summary sheet, and results for the past two Shuffles are
at: http://www.zianet.com/qrp/ZOMBIE/zombie.htm

A few changes ...
NEW HAMS vs OLD HAMS
A QRP-L discussion often compares us OLD hams and the lack of NEW hams.
Though, I think we have more NEW hams in QRP than we think. In the past 2-3
years, we have had several stations participating in the Zombie Shuffle that
report this was their first CW contest ever, or in years, and in two cases,
new hams made their first ever CW QSO on the Shuffle. That is great.

So this year, the exchange has been modified to include how many years you
have been a ham. Are you an OT or NEW to the hobby? Brag about it on the
Zombie Shuffle.

IF YOU ARE A NEW HAM, defined here as 5 years or less (5 yrs, 11 mo. 30 days
or less), you will be a very special station in this year's Shuffle. For
your name, send ELVIS on the air. You will be worth 666 extra points to
everyone that works you. And, they'll want to work you for those bonus
points. So 15wpm or 5wpm, get on the air, make some QSOs, hand out 666
extra points, and let the rest of us say "hi" and welcome you to QRP.

Obviously, this is designed to get our new hams on the air with CW and allow
the rest of us to be on-the-air ELMERS. If you've only had a few CW QSOs
(or none) or think your CW is not the best - you're among friends.

ELVIS STATIONS this year, as stated above, will be those hams who have been
licensed for 5 years or less. There are also a few other ELVIS stations
assigned. You get 666 extra points for each ELVIS (or ELVIRA) station
worked.

For those new to the Shuffle, your Zombie number is that officially
assigned, or you can use your 3-digit telephone Area Code. If you need a
Zombie number, email Jan at n0qt at arrl.net and request a number.

And finally, remember you can work the same station on a band every two
hours. So if you have bad QRM, crummy band conditions, etc., this will keep
you from getting too bored and make some points.

I do apologize for the 11th hour posting of the rules and summary sheet. I
had a rather extreme personal matter come up. No, I wasn't in jail!
(Moving my 85yo mother from a hospital to a nursing home, different cities).

See you Sunday night on the 13th annual Zombie Shuffle.

72, Paul NA5N
