Hi HBQRP groupies!
I saw this on the minimalist QRP E-list and thought that I would pass it along...
Looks like a cool rainy day project that can be  for kids (of all ages)  interested in Electronics and radios.

Ok, that subject line might get you excited but this receiver really did cost me about $1 worth of parts out of my junk box, it covers so far 80m to 20m I'm still working on how far I can stretch it, and it receives SSB, CW, and AM. The down side, it's wide open, fine tuning is by moving your hand, but I have figured out how to cheat a bit. But over all it was a blast to build and very addictive to use. Here is the webpage address, http://www.qsl.net/pa2ohh/05simrx.htm and I am posting the schematic and a picture in my folder. It took me about and hour to build, nothing is critical, I used a MPF102, soldered machine pins to the taps on the coil, (I didn't have any clips), serialed a 68p cap to the tuning cap to reduce sensitivity, used a 240v/12v transformer for the audio transformer and power it with 12v. Headphones work fine, but I cheat here and plug in a set of old computer speakers, great audio. It takes a bit to figure out how to tune it, but when
you get it it is alot of fun to use, you VERY slowly move your hand to fine tune SSB and CW signals, but I figured out that if I connect it to my YAESU FC-700 tuner I can set the band switch for the loudest signal and fine tune with the Tune and Load knobs, I can then lock onto a CW signal and listen with ease. This rig will never be you main rig, it is just a novelty but it is a blast, if you have a junk box and an hour to kill give it a go, build one with the grandkids, let me know.:)
