GA Gang,
Some of you read the QRP-L and some don't..........so here
is just the top snip of a very very long thread. This is in my
opinion something that has no place in Ham Radio. How
is this going to adjust the Ten-Tec resale market and it
will definitely challenge your resale prices of the Ten-Tec
rig in your hamshack.
Also, Scott Robbins - W4PA has purchased Vibroplex, and
has left Ten-Tec. Vibro will relocate to Tennessee at
Knoxville.

First off thanks to all who have followed as well as commented on this
topic and sorry if I caused friction among the members regarding this.
As Bob (w9ya) reported he talked to the VP at Ten Tec again today - the
official Ten Tec policy is NOT to reveal anything about a piece of
equipment WITHOUT the written consent of the previous owner.
When Bob reported this to me I had to pick up the phone and call the VP.
We had a nice civil conversation - I expressed my views on the subject
(not questioning Bob's conversation with him in any way shape or
manner). Jim Wharton N04A (VP of Ten Tec) did reiterate TT's position of
NOT revealing any updates or mods done to a piece of equipment - The
HIPPA reference will be dropped.
I told him I was going to make one last comment to the group regarding
this confirmed policy and this is it. I still have got to say "Wow - I'm
in shock Really - you GOTTA BE KIDDING me????". In my opinion if they
keep this policy intact it is going to have a negative impact an Ten
Tecs amateur radio sales.
I will be thinking long and hard before I buy anymore Ten Tec gear new
or used.
Still dumbfounded thanks for reading!!

I just bought a piece of used Ten Tec gear, have it in my hand. I called
the factory to find out what mods (if any) have been done to the radio
per the serial number (they do keep track of work done by serial
number). I was told, due to HIPPA regulations, that without the written
permission of the previous owner they could NOT give me any information
on this radio!!!! You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! Anyone else had a
similar situation?? I must say I am flabbergasted to say the least!!
This piece of gear was made in late 2001 or early 2002 per the serial
number - so...... maybe there wer 10 owners of this do I need to get the
written permission of every one of them?? To me this is really beyond
belief!!
BTW I am in the onsite shredding business and have been for 8 years -
HIPPA laws have nothing to do with any piece of hardware that anyone
owns (I did call my corporate attorney to double check)
Pretty doggone dumbfounding I have got to say
