[HBQRP] Jan. 12th meeting - and "Lark in the Park '08"

Hi to all you HB-QRP groupies, and a happy start of the new year to you!

I found an interesting web page by Steve Webber on a new PSK radio he's
come up with.  I don't know if he will be putting it out as a kit or if
it is just a 'one off'.. but it looks interesting.  It uses PocketDigi
software running on any Windows Mobile PDA, like the Dell Axim, which has
a sound interface built into it.  This software will run several modes,
including PSK31, BPSK, RTTY, and "CW".  Here's the link to Steve's web page.

Sadly, unless things change at work, I'll have to work this weekend and will not
be able to make it to the meeting.  Usually I am able to show up to the
meeting due to the hours I work, but this weekend is for a 'project' and
we will be working 7AM to 7PM instead of my usual 4pm to 4AM shift.
Oh well, since it is a project and not my normal weekend day to work, I
get overtime pay!  Guess that helps take the sting out of it! 

I hope someone will be able to take some pictures of this months meeting
and they will be able to put them all on the web for those of us who can't
be there.

One other thing, I must have been bad, since Santa didn't bring me any
radio gear this year... But I did get a note and tracking number from
Elecraft that says my K-3 kit should be here Wednesday the 9th!  This
is the kit I ordered on May 3rd of '07!  Sadly since I have to work
this weekend, I'll probably not get time to put the kit together until
the middle of the next week..

If anyone is interested in seeing the K3, I'll try to bring it down to
the March meeting..

Since I will probably not be at the meeting.... I wanted to bring up
something I'd like the group to talk about and give some thought to at
the Jan. meeting.....

  I would like to suggest that we start to look at getting things
planned for this years HB-QRP "Lark in the Park".  This is where we
set up rigs and antenna's in the park and make some QSO's.  Most of
the meetings thru the year we are focusing on building rig's and helpful 
gadgets, but the "Lark in the Park" is where you get to show off your
home-brew'ed portable antennas! 

 Last year's was nice but a little to hot for some people.
I'd like to suggest maybe the MAY meeting for the "Lark".. It should
still be cool enough that it won't be bad sitting outside for a
few hours in the afternoon.   It would also be a good 'warm up' event
for setting up portable antennas for those that want to use these
antennas for field day the following month. 

What does the group think of this?  would May be OK or do we want
to try some other time? We only have this meeting and the next to 
plan for it if we want to do it in May.  I think where we had
it last year worked out great!  We were still able to meet at the
pizza place, get some quick food, and then everyone was able to 
follow out to the park.  I think it would be a great place to
have it again this year.


Thoughts, comments, suggestions?  Please post them on the
