[HBQRP] A little about myself...

Hi everyone,
The wonders of radio and Internet make it possible
that friends don't need to be within hailing distance.
Maybe I take that a little too far?
I earned my Novice ticket in 1989 while living in
Oregon, and though I wanted to use SSB so bad I could
taste it, I ended up only changing frequencies, but
staying with CW after upgrading to General.
For some forty years I've been a part time writer, so
it didn't take long before I began a small CW journal
called QNC!. It lasted nearly ten years. It never
amounted to anything great, but I certainly had a lot
of fun sending out my typos.
Barb, KC7BSY, and I retired in 1999 and moved to
Arizona's Sonoran Desert where I built a solar-powered
station. It was very successful, and I have a book of
QSLs from SSB contacts made with nine-watts. That's
where I learned some finer points of QRP (by dawn I
was QRP in spite of my best efforts).
About three years ago we moved to Texas, where our
oldest daughter lives. And from a "shack" that is
crowed into one corner of our bedroom, I now operate.
The reallocation of who can operate where and do what
will change my habits to some degree. I just haven't
decided how. My main focus, however, is on a
motorcycle trip to begin in June '07.
There're three of us, John in Milton-Freewater,
Oregon; Dan in Show Low, Arizona. Our plan includes a
month on the road--Texas, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado,
Missouri, and Arkansas. I'm the only ham in the
group, and I'm going to try for some QRP contacts
using an MFJ-9420 SSB/CW and a hamstick. Anyone
interested in the "Old Farts" progression can log onto
APRS. I have a TinyTrak 3 running.

My ancient CB-900C has marginal charging capabilities,
so my radio APRS radio is a Radio Shack HTX-202 with
five-watts. More QRP?
There you have it, more than you wanted to know.
