HomeBrewers and QRPers
As many of you may have heard from one source or anther Omaha has been an ON
then OFF then ON then OFF destination for victims of Hurricane Katrina. It
appears as of 9:30 pm Friday night we are ON again. (This however is
subject to change.)
If they arrive Dar and I will be involved in communications from the Douglas
County EOC. It appears the arrival time will be in direct conflict with the
scheduled HB-QRP meeting.
So Dar and I will be unable to attend the meeting. Due to the late time
frame, we have decided NOT to cancel the meeting. Please continue as
planned, just without us.
Here is my suggestion:
If you will be involved with the communications deployment, go the AARC
hamfest and await deployment from there.
If you will not be involved with the communications deployment, do go the
AARC hamfest, and then the HB-QRP meeting.
If you were not planning on going to the hamfest, then go to the HB-QRP
meeting as planned.
We did not have a program planned for this month, it was just a finish your
project and have pizza day. If I find someone at the flea market who is
going to the meeting, I will send my handouts for the Elmer 101 project. If
not I will e-mail them next week after things settle down.
I WILL send out an e-mail early next week with all the information on the
Elmer 101 project, so we can get started before the October meeting.
Have fun at the meeting...

Good Morning HomeBrewers and QRPers...
It's time to start thinking about our next meeting September 10th, 2005.
We will be meeting again at Breadeaux Pisa in Ashland, NE. (Same place we
we've been meeting.) They have reserved the party room for us at 11:00 am.
If you have a busy calendar like I do, you probably have noticed September
10th is also the date for the Aksarben ARC Flea Market in Springfield.
We thought about moving the meeting date up a week,
but that's Labor Day Weekend.
We thought about moving the meeting date back a week,
but that's the Missouri Valley Flea Market.
So we decided to leave our meeting date where it is.
Here's what I'm going to do. The Aksarben Flea Market starts at 8:00 am in
Springfield. I'll probably get there between 8:00 and 9:00 am. I'll
inspect the "fleas" for a couple of hours and then head over to Ashland for
the HBQRP meeting sometime around 10:30 am.
According to Yahoo... it's about 15 miles - 25 minutes:
When you leave the fairgrounds go west on Main to Hwy 50.
Turn Right (North) on Hwy 50 - go 1/2 mile.
Turn Left (West) on Platteview Rd (it's paved) - go 6 miles.
Turn Right (North) on Hwy 31 - go 3/4 mile (over I-80)
Turn Left (West) on Hwy 6 - go 7 miles.
Turn Right (North then West) on Silver St - go 1/2 mile
Find a parking place - you are there!
If this is your first meeting, and you are not coming from the Flea Market,
Breadeaux Pisa is located in downtown Ashland, near 14th & Silver Streets.
Ashland is about half way between Lincoln and Omaha on Highway 6. The
Ashland interchange on I-80 has been under construction, so the best route
is to take Highway 6 to Ashland, and then follow the signs to the downtown
area. Breadeaux Pisa is in the middle of the block.
If you find something you just can't live without at the Flea Market, it'll
be OK to be a few minutes late for the HBQRP meeting. (We are usually there
until 2:00 or 3:00 pm.)
I don't have a specific project to build this month. Instead I'd like
everyone to bring whatever kit you have been working on and just haven't
finished, and finish it! If you have a kit you have been having problems
with, this would be a good meeting to bring it to. We'll have a whole room
full of "experts" who will be glad to help you with it. If you have just
finished a kit, bring it and show it off!
Feel free to come and build, just watch, visit, heckle, Elmer, etc. :)
We will also be discussing the group build of the SW-80/40/30/20+ kits from
Small Wonder Labs. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING YET! We are working on some group
pricing for the kits, cases, parts and accessories. Dar and I will have
FULL DETAILS at the meeting. (Right Dar!!!)
I've also been working on getting all the Elmer 101 material together.
Again, I'll have FULL DETAILS at the meeting.
If you can't make the meeting and are interested in the SWXX+ group build,
don't worry. We'll post the information here after the meeting.
We will start at 11:00 am, adjourn/pause to eat around noon, (Breadeaux Pisa
specializes in Italian pizza and pasta dishes,) and continue until whenever.
:)
[The Wake Forest / Nebraska football game doesn't start until 6:00 pm, so
you'll have plenty of time to avoid the traffic, make it to Lincoln, or make
it back to the TV (TBS), after the meeting.]
See you on Saturday, September 10th...
