Hey Arnie!
Great trip report. And great use of the reflector.
You will have to show us all your goodies. Of course, they will all be
built and working by next meeting, correct? :)

Subject: [HBQRP] Dayton Hamvention trip
Hi everyone,
Well, I made it back from the Hamvention in fair
shape.
Mike - NF0N, Anthony - AB0XP, and myself left for
Dayton
Thursday morning, getting a late start of about 8:45AM
from my house after the guys were late getting started
from Sioux city.
Dropped of Anthonys dog in IA city and had something
to eat around 1PM. Stopped about 7PM somewhere in IN
for food and first
fuel stop. Storm warnings were out and it looked
nasty. Didn't want to get stuck in storm having to
fill tank.
Made it to Richmond IN. where we had our hotel.
Mike and Anthony went to the Hamvention on Friday,
while I stayed in Hotel due to foot/leg swelling up
and giving me some worries. (My leg got broken about 5
weeks earlyer in a car wreck). Didn't get to go to
the FDIM gathering on the other side of Dayton put on
by the QRP group due to leg on Friday.
Saturday I was feeling better and went to the
Hamvention. I had rented an electric scooter to ride
on and it was easy to pick up at the door.
Mike was a forum moderator so we got close parking!
I stopped by the Elecraft booth and looked at lots of
new toys I would have liked. One did happen to find
its way into the basket on my scooter...
I bought a KX-1 Kit with tuner and 30M band modules.
I also worked my way by the G-QRP and AmQRP tables -
bought one back issue of one of the magazines.
Went by the Nuts and Volts subscription stand and
renewed, also next door to that was the BuddiPole
stand. I had wanted one of the 3-ratio switched
bal-uns they had. They were all out so I just placed
my order
with them to have it shipped at Hamvention price.
I also picked up a set of 12- 2700mAH AA batterys for
$20.00, with the thoughts of using them on the KX-1.
Since I do mess with kits and all, I stopped by
Opto-electronics and purchased a new "cub" freq
counter.
I had purchased a counter from them when I was at the
Hamvention back about 16 years ago, but the NiCd's in
it went bad and I thought it was time to 'upgrade'.
Last major thing I bought was a kit from Byonics for a
synth. APRS "pocket tracker". Its a low power 2M
transmitter with APRS-GPS encoder that will fit in
an Altoids can. I plan on using it on my bicycle when
my leg heals up again.
The trip home was un-eventful. Left after the BMHA
form that Mike and Anothony were in got over. We were
on the road about 9:30 Central time, and we pulled
into
Fremont about Midnight. We were bucking heavy winds
most of the way back home. Made driving tedious.
I saw Joe, K0NEB from the HPQRP group, but no one
else.
Saw some friends from the old CITS group and a few
from Sioux city, but none of the local Fremont people,
or any that I recognized from Omaha or Lincoln.
Anyhow, other than the leg, I had a good time and it
was an enjoyable trip. Weather was good, but
attendance seemed down this year from past years..
there
were several inside spots that were empty, and several
of the regular flea mkt venders (Mendelsons) were gone
and there were a number of empty stalls in the flea
mkt.
For now..
