Go to www.amsat.org There is a wealth of reading, including some on-line
primers.
With the right antennas (the hand-held 'ARROW' dual band beam is great), you
should be able to work all the LEO FM birds.

You will need sat-tracker software to time the passes - a lot of it is free
for amateur usage although the $59 Nova for Windows is (IMHO) one of the
best and well worth the money.

If you're going to be serious about sat work, definitely join AMSAT.  The
magazine alone is worth the membership fee.
