Hi Bruce,=0D
=0D
You won't hear much voice unless the crew is talking.=0D
=0D
In region 2 (us) the voice uplink is 144.490 MHz, not=0D
145.200 MHz=0D
=0D
The packet uplink is 145.990 MHz.=0D
=0D
Downlink for everything is 145.800 MHz.=0D
=0D
For over a month I have been monitoring the packet=0D
digipeater on board ISS and hearing stuff on every pass=0D
with-in range... even got the APRS stuff copying right!=0D
=0D
Was at the point where I wanted to start transmitting APRS=0D
and packet thru ISS when (late on the 24th) I stopped hearing=0D
the ISS.=0D
=0D
I have since made three visible observations and yet did not hear it.=0D
=0D
I was wondering if it was because a shuttle luanch was getting close=0D
or if maybe there were some sort of power conservation going on=0D
on-board ISS.=0D
=0D
Thanks for the info,=0D

Hi Bill (and the group),=0D
=0D
Went outside this evening when I noticed I was going to=0D
be getting a fairly close fly-by of the ISS (a/p TLE #515=0D
using STS+). Made a couple calls at about 30 secs out,=0D
and a couple more through the pass. No repsonse. :(=0D
=0D
Could be due to using a 5w HT w/duck :)=0D
=0D
Just after I made the first couple calls, I decided I'd=0D
better check the reverse to see if any other stations=0D
were trying the same thing as I was...=0D
What I *DID* hear was simplex conversations and even a=0D
telephone autopatch on 145.200... Is this common practice ?=0D
How is the ISS supposed to hear a weak HT, esp if there are=0D
stations running 20-50w with external 'gain' antennas that=0D
are ragchewing/autopatching ?!=0D
=0D
The stations I heard were probably in Sacramento or down in=0D
the Contra Costa, Napa or Sonoma County areas. Wasn't able=0D
to copy a full call although I believe I did hear them ID.=0D
=0D
The operating content and practices kind of reminded me of=0D
what one might hear on 11m or on some of the HF-SSB freqs,=0D
like 2kc down from an established AM net.=0D
Not sure if they heard me - probably not, although I think=0D
I might have heard bits-n-pieces of a couple snide remarks=0D
about a 'station in the distance'... Not sure!=0D
=0D
With what's up in the vehicle this time around, what are=0D
the chances going to be of making a contact using a HH ?=0D
I remember hearing about several rubber-duck contacts=0D
with the MIR during it's tour of duty.=0D
=0D
