Larry,
I will provide what little information I have. I use the Arrow hand held
2M/440MHz beam antenna, the Icom -32A HT at 5 watts and a tape recorder. I
don't try to copy anything by pen and paper during the pass. I think you
could have a lot of fun with this minimum of equipment. Even if you have to
use two HT's, one for 2M and one for 440MHz you could work UO-14 with ease.
Be sure and listen to what others are saying but mostly what you would say
to get a contact would be "This is N6HPX/DU1 portable marine at location
'xx11'". The location is calculated from your present lat/long with free
programs on the internet. If you don't have access to the internet, or a
downloadable program to compute your location code, just give the lat/long
and the other side of the contact can figure out your location code. Be
sure and QSL and ask for their QSL. Try it, it is a lot of fun.
