I'm not looking at the schematic, but Hammarlund cans are notorious for having the mice cap in the base of the
can short out and take things with them when they go. That's usually indicative of a radio that been stored in damp
conditions as well. T-1 in both the 170 and 180 have the same issues. They can be fixed by removing the can from the radio
(can you say fun?) and disassembling the base, removing the mica in there and installing a fixed mica outside the can. This
is not a fun project, but I'd bet that's where you trouble is.
A donor parts radio usually is the cure. The only issue with that is that T-1 in both the 170 and 180 are unique to their two chassis.
