Subject: [Hammarlund] HQ-150 Panel Lettering

Working with an HQ-150 panel here and after washing and polishing the panel the
raised control lettering gleams and glistens in its unfinished aluminum style.
Unfortunately, at most angles of viewing and light the lettering is almost
invisible and unreadable in contrast to the painted panel surface.

I’ve worked with a number of HQ-140’s and 150’s in the past and currently have
two others in the shop, all with white raised panel letters.

As these are >raised<, not >engraved< characters, a white waxed pencil/paint
stick fill-in and a swipe of a cloth with WD-40 (etc.) won’t fix this.

Ideas? It’s a pretty panel but at typical desktop viewing angles the knob and
control legends cannot really be read.

I’m sure my panel cleaning did not cause this since I noticed the lettering was
not white and in contrast to the panel when it arrived in my shop, prior to
cleaning. Did Hammarlund have a run of raised unfinished aluminum panel
markings?
