Hi

I asked a few questions on the Amateur-Repairs group after acquiring an
HQ-!$)-X receiver.

My post was as follows:-

I have a few questions to the Group regarding Hammarlund receivers:

1. Is there an still active Hammarlund reflector Group somewhere?.
2. The 4 electrolytics and the 4 paper/wax capacitors were replaced 4 or 5
years ago (as per Mr Carlsons Lab on Utube) and the receiver realigned but
without the use of a Spectrum Analyser.

When using the Bandspread dial on the Ham Bands I find it is necessary to
set the Main tuning Dial to 4.00MHz for true bandspread 80M calibration,
7.35MHz for 40M, 14.55 MHz for 20M, 22.80MHz for 15M and 30.20 MHz for 10M.
These appear to me to be random frequencies near the top of each Ham band.
Is this normal or does it need some tweaking of the realignment?
3. There is a low level of "hum" all the time., particularly noticeable with
the antenna disconnected of course. As the caps were replaced what is the
most likely cause (resistors, auto transformer to provide 110V) ?
4. I want to use the RX with a UK vintage AM/CW transmitter. Is there any
recognised design for single switch "auto changing over" between receive and
transmit. I know I could sequentially switch the RX to "transmit", then
switch the antenna from the RX to the TX, and then switch the TX from
receive to transmit, but it would be kind of slow and tedious! Any ideas
please?

Having said all that, I am amazed that this 70 year old tube receiver works
so well, on both CW and AM but can be used quite successfully on SSB. After
5 mins it is stable and not drifting too.
Any help or advice appreciated
