Let me second this. Also about the tuning cap. Do not bend
the plates even though they are slotted they were never meant to
be bent. However, the alignment of the stators with the rotors is
important. The stators are clamped in place with screws and fiber
washers. They must be exactly centered in the rotor. I have used
feeler blades to hold the stator centered. I think when people
bend plates its often because the stators have drifted away from
being centered and exactly parallel.
Dial calibration is given in some military handbooks as
0.25%. This is very good but the actual dial accuracy is actually
better. I also found a trick for getting the moving pointer to be
exactly vertical, which it should be. It should be adjusted so it
comes just to the line for each band. The calibration marks will
then appear to be extensions of the rifle sight pointer.
Since you have already replaced the caps this advice is late
but the best are polypropylene plastic film caps. They are far
better than the original paper caps and the ceramic caps used in
older rebuilds. There is no particular reason to replace the
ceramic caps unless you find a bad one.
