One of my HQ-140-X's has an SO-239 socket installed between the 3-terminal antenna strip and the 2-pin relay socket. I suspect the coax connector was placed there since it allows close access to the antenna terminal on the strip, and chassis space to accommodate the SO-239. The SO-239 obliterates part of the stamped serial number, leaving only 2 stamped numerals visible. So, I'll never know what the serial number, or place in the production run that radio is.

I should have clarified that the HQ-170 serial number is on the left end (as vied from the rear) of the rear vertical chassis surface.

Both the HQ-170 and HQ-140-X have the serial numbers STAMPED in the rear chassis (vertical surface) visible from the rear.
The serial number on the HQ-170 will be located on the left end of that rear chassis vertical surface.
The serial number on the HQ-140-X will be located on that rear chassis surface between the 3-terminal antenna strip and the 2-pin relay socket.
