Hello all,
A number of years ago, I was a member of this group when I
had a HQ-180A. I reluctantly parted with it to a good friend who just had to
have it. Last Saturday while at the local scrap metal yard, I could not
believe my luck as set of to the side was a HQ-150 in beautiful condition.
When I opened the top, there was the actual factory owners manual inside!
Needless to say, it followed me home. I didn't have much hope that it was in
operational condition, it was in the scrap yard after all. Anyway, I hooked
it up to a metered variac and slowly applied power looking for any current
surges and attempting to reform the caps. When I eventually reached 120v
without any issues, I turned the volume up and started to tune through the
AM broadcast band. I tuned to the local radio station, and it came to life!
I couldn't believe it, it was actually working, and sounding great! Anyway,
I now have another Hammarlund to play with!
Anyway, it seems to work fairly well. I'm sure it needs an alignment which I
will be doing in the near future. The dial is off a little, but that was to
be expected.
I tuned AM stations, SSB stations and some CW stations. I didn't play too
much with the crystal filters or the Q amplifer Peak/Notch, but they seemed
to work.
I have a Tektronix 2445B oscilloscope and a Boontoon 103D with sweep
generator, plus other test equipment, so I should have everything I need to
perform a proper alignment via the instructions in the manual. One question
I have, is where do I connect the oscilloscope to see the wave forms? I have
never performed an alignment where an oscilloscope was needed, so this is a
first for me. I have performed alignments on Heath kits and a few others
over the years, so I am not a complete novice.
Any guidance and help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
