I agree Glen,
The BBOD have to be removed because they ceased to be safe years ago. The
audio folks simply don't realize the Polypropylene caps are equal to or
better than the BBOD in all categories.
The audio folks were burnt by the foolish notion that disc ceramic were a
good replacement. The genesis of this notion has roots in the ham radio
ranks by supposed experts. Guess it's time to relegate the Audiofools name
to the archives along with Hamradiofools and treat the audio folks like
people that can hear a whole lot better than us and appreciate extraordinary
audio --- sure wish I could.
Have a great day --- Kindest regards Jim

I agree that disc ceramic capacitors, when used in audio circuits, can
definitely have an effect on the quality of the signal. Also, I have run
into disc ceramic capacitors that actually acted as a transducer and one
could actually hear the audio. But, using black beauty capacitors is asking
for trouble when they fail, and there is like at least a 99.9% chance that
they are going to fail!

Those folks have been burned by the common misconception that you remove all
of the old caps and replace all of them with disc ceramic. That notion is
just
as foolish. I guess fools are not unique to audio enthusiasts.
I'm not an Audiofool as some call them only because my ears only respond to
4Kc and lower from too many years behind a noisy prop.
Those old paper caps, when new, were superior to ceramic caps for linear
applications. What they miss is the Polypropylene caps will do far better
than the original paper caps or ceramic caps in linear applications
especially audio for those that still enjoy good hearing.
