[Hammarlund] aligning pointers on HQ-170A

Hi all,
I have been working on my HQ-170A and have noticed in the past that my
pointers do not align on the center marks in the windows. I can put it
where one of the pointers lines up on say, the left frequency window,
but the pointer alignment is off at least one hash mark on the right
window and not lined up on the center mark on the face plate. I would
assume they both should line up in both windows at the same time
according to pictures in the manual. It appears in the manual that both
of the dials with the aligning marks are connected by a small arm. There
is also a spring attached to the left dial which is attached to the arm
connecting both dials. It almost appears as if I were to stretch the
small spring a bit, I could get them to align because the left dial will
always return to the same spot when I try to push it to stretch the
spring. Not sure how the spring is being used since it appears that the
dials are connected by the arm. I hope this makes some sense. Has anyone
had any experience with this? Im trying to avoid pulling off the whole
faceplate but if that is what I need to do I will. any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.
