Thanks Al, That's what I was thinking. Above on V3 ( mixer #2) they used (1 
MC) so I was thinking a typo...

Hi Ron,
I think it is to designate for the 1 mc band.  Looks like the gate is
in operation then to bypass V-3, the first "convertor" (mixer) on the
lowest band, to just have double conversion rather than triple.
