[Hammarlund] HQ-180 sounding right?

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am going to start with tube
replacement first. That is always the easiest starting point. I looked
last night and do not have replacements for the tubes that were
suggested to try. I will pick up a few and see what happens. If the
tubes are not the problem then I will go to the next step. Test some
voltages at various places in the AGC circuit. Sounds like it is the
area to pursue. Will let you all know what I come up with after tube
replacement.

Thanks-Bob-W0YBS

However, again according to the manual, there is an auto response circuitry that widens and narrows the audio bandwidth depending of the strength of the signal. That is, with a strong signal the audio frequency response is wide but, as the signal strength decreases, the audio frequency bandwidth gets sharper and sharper.
