[Hammarlund] speaking of tubes

Western Electric in Lee’s Summit (Kansas City) was pretty much a ghost town past the mid 1970’s. By the mid 1980’s most of the activity was auctioning off big batches of gear.

Even modern tubes are hand made if they are the wire grid types. If you go through a Russian tube factory, there still are lines of benches full of people putting them together. Each one gets a look and a tweak or two from “the master” before they head over to be sealed.

Richardson Electronics had purchased the Sealex machines and ordered them destroyed. I think one was to be shipped to Richardson in the Chicago area.
