[Hammarlund] Home brew Hammarlund type dial drive

Hi Brian,

I liked the two dials on the Hammarlunds, too. I had a HQ145-X. I don't
remember what size those disks were but maybe smaller than 5 inch CDs. I
have considered building a set of those, too. There was a design
published somewhere that used a small rubber grommet instead of O-rings.
The disk rides in the groove of the grommet. I think the design had a
pair of metal washers with one on each side of the grommet and a nut
against each washer. The shaft was threaded and the nuts adjusted the
position of the grommet to align with the disc and the amount of
'tension' or the amount of 'pinch'. It would be a little fussy getting
all of that setup just right but no more effort than building your own
radio from scratch.

I'm in northern lower Michigan. Just where is this wonderful iron?
