I used manual sweep on an HQ-129-X. It helps to have a
counter on the generator. You don't need a scope, a plain
voltmeter will work. The curve shown in the handbook is a
slightly rounded broad peak. The IF can just be peaked at
the crystal frequency but the center bandwidth will be too
narrow and the skirts not as steep as if done correctly.
