Litz wire has individually insulated strands while
normal stranded wire does not. The idea is to multiply the
surface area to reduce skin effect. Litz wire is used
mostly in medium frequency coils like 455 khz IF coils and
in some broadcast band coils but generally plain wire has
lower losses above about 1 Mhz.
