Actually, you can sort out the 6 (or 7) wires from the RF deck fairly
easily with just an ohmmeter (having discovered this after failing to
label them and with the paint on the wires long faded and color-free). I
don't bother to label them any more.

For instance, for the 6-wire RF deck (the most common one), this is the key:
Blue wire goes right to V3 pin 5
Yellow-Black goes to pin 3 of V1, V2, V3 and V4 with very low resistance
(just a few ohms)
Green-Red goes to pin 6 of V1 and V2 with about 4400 ohms (varies a bit
with model)
Blue-Red goes to pin 1 of V4 with about 2K ohms
Red-White goes to pin 6 of V3 through 6800 ohms
White-Black to pin 1 of V1, V2 through 520K (will probably be higher)

Enjoy!

Originally, those wires were color coded but the colors have probably faded by now so that you can't rely on the color code to know where they go. I found that Testor's model paint came in handy. I would put a dab of different color paint on each one before disassembly and draw a diagram showing which color wire went where. It worked like a charm. Just use colors that are easily distinguishable. The pod has a cover so no one will see any paint on the wires once you get the set reassembled.
