     I know they can be a female dog to get right.  Just a few hints.  Start at an end of the tuning cap.  Best with plates meshed to avoid bending them.  Dont worry about the pointer at first.  As I wind from point to point I use a small piece of masking tape to hold the string in place.  The tuning shaft usually has 2 1/2 turns on it.  Too many can mess it up.  Always keep an old piece of junk handy to throw across the room for all the times you will want to throw the radio.  Hope this helps and good luck.
