[Hammarlund] Dial cord restringing

I would echo all of the points made especially the one N0DGN made about having a mechanically functional system on which to hang the string.

All of the tuning caps and pulleys across which the cord passes must be moving freely. That should be part of a good restoration anyway.

Grab-bags of springs turn up now and then on eBay and at ham fests. A bit of ingeniuity will help in getting to the right end-loops and spring size/tension.

My addition would be the aquisition of a pair of long reaching hemostats for getting into tight spots.

I've also read folks' comments on the internet about gluing the cord knots on springs and at other endpoints.

I do this but only after I'm completely satisfied that the springs have settled, dial pointers are going where they're supposed to, and the cord has settled into position.
