     I replied also to this message on another list.
     Many SP-600-JX's were re-capped by either the military 
according to a Modification Work Order or by civilian 
contractors. Its likely whoever did this one simply missed 
the IF cans or was too lazy to get into them.  If you have 
to recap the IF's it makes things easier to remove the side 
panel of the chassis. This is not as difficult as it may 
look. By removing it one can get into both the cans and 
parts of the underchassis which are otherwise quite 
difficult. There are something like sixty-two caps in these 
things, all must be replaced.   I think there is a list of 
caps on one of the Hammarlund sites.
     The fact that the MWO was issued in the late 1950s is a 
proof that the BB caps began to fail very quickly.  I am not 
sure when Hammarlund stopped using paper caps in production 
but it seems that a lot of SP-600's were built with them.
