Hello Moe,
Thanks for the response! I share your enthusiasm for keeping a bit of history in its original form. I'm a fan of restored Model A Fords.
Replacing the clock in the HQ-145 with the frequency counter doesn't deface it. The frequency counter fits in the hole left by the clock, and anyone can swap it out for a clock later if they want to. The guy that sells the counters has done a really neat job of designing the face--it even includes a Hammarlund logo! Check it out:

Secondly, this radio has spent its life a mile from the Pacific Ocean, and the front panel is pretty badly corroded. There isn't a lot of beauty there to preserve.
I'll be making an overlay for the front panel using Coreldraw, and having it printed and laminated at the copy shop, as I can't afford to have it redone in the traditional way. That it gets a new life at all as a functioning radio is only because I can buy it for $50.
Thirdly, I'm on a budget that's tighter than tight, and if I can get a few bucks for the clock, they can go toward new electrolytics, or whatever other parts are needed.
Cheers,
Brian Burns
