I just aquired some mid-1940s QSTs. In the October,
1945 issue there are _three_ full page ads for the HQ-129-X,
all show a picture of a receiver that looks similar to an
HQ-120-X with some additional trim around the dials and
meter. The meter is the same square window one with extended
scale used on the HQ-120-X and the front panel is narrower
than the later HQ-129-X. I was going to ask if anyone had
seen an actual receiver like this when I looked into a later
number, May, 1946, and found an announcement by Hammarlund
titled "Many Thanks for Waiting" and stating that the
earlier announcements were premature but that receivers were
now in production and would be delivered soon. Evidently it
took five months before actual receivers were in production.
There is an ad from Radio Shack featuring the production
version of the receiver.
I asked some time ago about the odd model number, of
course it was the original price, $129, plus speaker
(another $10). Hammarlund couldn't hold the price for long
because of severe inflation following the war. This magazine
also has a full page ad for the SP-400 in it.
