Or that RCA/Navy mod to the SRR-11/12/13 which used two back-to-back 
zeners to regulate both "sides" of the AC voltage.

Well, I ***LIKE*** VR tubes: they are so pretty. I really like the colors. ;-)

G&G? Do you mean grounded-grid? Hmmmm....that is an idea that has 
merit...only slight rewiring of the socket...

Screen and suppresser to plate, to grid, or to ground? Probably ground.
