Well, I took a look today to see how difficult it would be to convert the 6C4 HFO over to a 
6AH6:

It ain't easy.

The entire socket would have to be changed: the original socket has both pins 2 and 5 
completely missing from the socket...as in...removed...blank...

Furthermore, the socket connections are rather difficult to get to.

AAAAAAANNNDD...all the sockets are riveted.

So...plan B...

I bought a batch of military Sylvania 6C4WAs, and some military Sylvania 6BE6s and 5150s.

Now, I will see if I can reduce the rather severe instability...

If I can't, then I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and change the socket.
